Matthew 4:14-22

As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. ‘Come, follow me,’ Jesus said, ‘and I will send you out to fish for people.’ At once they left their nets and followed him.

Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.

I’ve got 1,613 followers now, Lord.
Wow! Where did they all come from?
How many followers have you got, Jesus?
1,000,000?
1,000,000,000?

It’s so easy to tweet and retweet and accept followers; then follow others.
It just doesn’t’ seem so easy to follow you, though!

Whoever wants to be your disciple must deny themself and take up their cross daily and follow you?
Sell everything we have and give to the poor. Then, follow you?
No one who starts to follow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God?

Lord this is hard!
You’re asking for serious commitment!
Oh, please lord, I struggle sometimes.
help me to follow and give and serve!
AMEN.
