Trust
Acts 5:3-5
Isaiah 28: 14 -16
Therefore hear the word of the Lord, you scoffers who rule this people in Jerusalem.
Because you have said, ‘We have made a covenant with death, and with Sheol we have an agreement;
when the overwhelming scourge passes through it will not come to us; for we have made lies our refuge,
and in falsehood we have taken shelter’; therefore thus says the Lord God, See, I am laying in Zion a foundation stone, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation: ‘One who trusts will not panic.’
Acts 5: 3 – 5
‘Ananias,’ Peter asked, ‘why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back part of the proceeds of the land? While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, were not the proceeds at your disposal? How is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? You did not lie to us but to God!’ Now when Ananias heard these words, he fell down and died. And great fear seized all who heard of it.
Lord, my Saviour,
You are my foundation
Sure and tested
The cornerstone of my faith.
Help me to put my trust in you
And not the lies of those
Whose only concern is their own advancement.
Help me to put my trust in you
And lean not to my own understanding.
Help me to put my trust in you
And see clearly my actions and motives
Help me to put my trust in you
With no pretence that I am better than I am
Or fear that truth will disadvantage me
Help me to put my trust in you
That I might have a clean heart
And a right spirit
Help me to put my trust in you
That I might live.
