True Wealth

Matthew 5: 3

Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven

Father, show us true wealth.  Help us to close our ears to the clamour of advertising which tells us we need to own so much more than we truly need.  Help us to accept that owning things does not make us better people. We are so easily influenced by what others have that we fail to notice how worthless our lives have become.  We are so sure we can buy happiness that we forget that greed and jealously and pride are sins.  Strengthen our wills so that we give greater value to the intangible wealth of spiritual gifts than to the worldly possessions we must one day leave behind.

Father, help us to be open to your guidance and willing to be saved by the rich grace and mercy you offer freely to those who love you.  Help us to follow in the footsteps of your Son who gave up the riches of your Kingdom to be poor on Earth so that we might know salvation and be heirs to the promise of eternal life.   Amen
