True wealth
Proverbs 11: 24, 25
One man gives freely, yet gains even more: another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.
A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.
Father, what is true wealth?
So much of our lives is taken up with concerns about money, about how to earn it and how to spend it, about how to cope when we have less and what to buy when we have more. Forgive our narrow view of life.
We see need and wonder how much to spare from our purse or pocket without really noticing it go. We see destitution or pain and walk past on the other side. Forgive our selfishness.
Then we see a beggar share her plastic cup of tea with a friend; we see a tramp lay his coat over an injured cyclist. Forgive us if we do not feel ashamed.
Father help us to understand true wealth, to know the gifts you have given us and to be willing to share what we have. Amen
