Deuteronomy 12

Deuteronomy 12

There, in the presence of the Lord your God, who has blessed you, you and your families will eat and enjoy the good things that you have worked for.

Luke 10

When you enter into a city, and are welcomed, eat what is set before you.   Heal the sick who are there and tell them: ‘The Kingdom of God is near you.’

Ever present God,

Thank you for joining me on the journey to work today;

It’ll be a busy day in the city, and our cities are not like the ones in which you walked.

Here from the top deck of the bus you see

not the naked Earth, but Earth clothed in her glad-rags:

Steel, glass and concrete as we travel on

ribbons of tarmacadam.

Through the maze of structures, where lights shine

and folk rush at every angle, noise surrounds all.

In the midst of this I’m reminded by messages on my mobile-phone

to spend time with you,

in the wonderful playground of technology,

you enabled us to build.

So today I bring to you the place where I work

and the people alongside me there.

May I be the signpost to your Kingdom for them.

Today I bring you those folk who get me here,

and home safely each day through rail networks

and roads that we too often use with more complaint than gratitude.

Today I bring you the friends and strangers I’ll share the shops and cafes with, depending upon them,

and depending upon You.

Amen
