The Race of Life
Philippians 3:13-14
Of course, my friends, I really do not think that I have already won it; the one thing I do, however, is to forget what is behind me and do my best to reach what is ahead. So I run straight toward the goal in order to win the prize, which is God's call through Christ Jesus to the life above.
It is very hard to find your way along a new pathway or road
if you spend your whole time looking backwards.
We know that, Lord but we still do it.
We watch athletics on TV and hear the commentators say that
someone has lost a medal because they took their eyes off the tape to see who was behind them.
We know we do that too, in the race of life.
We know the past is important because it has made us who we are
but we shouldn't make it more important than the future.
Whatever we have done up to now we know there is still more to do.
You have a purpose for us.
Help us to reach forward,
to grasp our opportunities,
to look to the future in hope and in faith,
believing that everyone who runs the very best race they can
will be a winner in your eyes.
As we journey on may we focus our eyes on you
and so reach the goal of life in your nearer presence.
