The Light
Luke 2:25-32
The Prophecy of Simeon
At that time there was a man in Jerusalem named Simeon. He was righteous and devout and was eagerly waiting for the Messiah to come and rescue Israel. The Holy Spirit was upon him and had revealed to him that he would not die until he had seen the Lord’s Messiah. That day the Spirit led him to the Temple. So when Mary and Joseph came to present the baby Jesus to the Lord as the law required, Simeon was there. He took the child in his arms and praised God, saying,
“Sovereign Lord, now let your servant die in peace,
as you have promised.I have seen your salvation,
which you have prepared for all people. He is a light to reveal God to the nations,
and he is the glory of your people Israel!”
On Jordan’s stormy banks
TEXT: Samuel Stennett
MUSIC: Christopher Miner 1997
1. On Jordans stormy banks I stand,
And cast a wishful eye
To Canaans fair and happy land,
Where my possessions lie.
2. All o’er those wide extended plains,
Shines one eternal day;
There God the Son forever reigns,
And scatters night away.
Chorus: I am bound (I am bound)
I am bound (I am bound)
I am bound for promised land,
I am bound (I am bound)
I am bound (I am bound)
I am bound for promised land.
Prayer:
Lord grant me grace to be faithfully obedient to the call you have on my life.
Grant me patience and a vision of hope.
As I walk with you daily,
May I also know that, even now, I am bound to be in your presence forever.
May all that I do in this day be to Your glory.
The grace I pray for is to be in the light of Your presence and be a light to others. Amen.
