The Journey to Worship
Matthew 2
After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. 10 When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. 11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshipped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.
Almighty God, we wake this morning to worship the new born King. It is the end of one journey and the beginning of another. It is the journey that brings us to the very thing you made us for - WORSHIP.
Every one of us has to worship, but it is the object of our worship that gives away the nature of what we count as important in our lives.
Sometimes we have given ourselves to making money or worshipping at the shrine of success.
Sometimes we have given ourselves pleasure and allowed ourselves to be consumed by with selfish desire
But today, we are reminded that our restless hearts can only find their rest in bowing down before the God who made us.
So bring us like the Wise Men to see in the Christ Child the goodness and grace of God and fall down like them giving to him the gift of our life and service.
Now let this journey to the manger begin in us an inner journey - where the Spirit of Christ born within us will grow and that we in turn would grow in grace and truth until at the journey’s end we rest in Him as he rests in us. Amen
