The art of prayer

Acts 6:1-3

During this time, as the disciples were increasing in numbers by leaps and bounds, hard feelings developed among the Greek-speaking believers - "Hellenists" - toward the Hebrew-speaking believers because their widows were being discriminated against in the daily food lines.  So the Twelve called a meeting of the disciples. They said, "It wouldn't be right for us to abandon our responsibilities for preaching and teaching the Word of God to help with the care of the poor.  So, friends, choose seven men from among you whom everyone trusts, men full of the Holy Spirit and good sense, and we'll assign them this task.

Lord,
Sometimes I feel overwhelmed
I feel like giving up
Disappearing altogether
I know I won’t
But its hard to see the need
And then ignore the situation
It’s not easy to find solutions
When there seems to be only problems

Lord,
Teach me the art of prayer
What it means to learn from the problem
rather than find a quick solution
Help me understand my role
is neither superior or inferior
to that of another
If I’m called to teach
Help me teach well
If I called to serve tables
Help me do so with a good heart
If I’m called to pray
Help me be faithful
Above all keep me ever mindful
This is your world
You are God
I am part of your creation
It is your will
And your word alone
that brings order out of chaos,
justice from inequality ,
And peace where there seems to be only war.
Lord,
Speak your word into my heart today.
