Thank you for this day
Romans 8:15
The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, ‘Abba, Father.’
Romans 8: 18 - 39
It always helps to have a plan: to have things to look forward to. Of course, it helps to look back and give thanks, and draw on a store of good memories, but the past is for learning from, not for living in. In many ways God is more interested in our future than in our past. Whether we are ashamed of what’s been, or self-satisfied with ourselves, it’s how we let God’s forgiveness and challenge and grace transform us. You may have seen the poster: “To be happy, we need someone to love, something to do, and something to look forward to.” God offers all these.
In music, or in a good story, or in loving, it’s the anticipation that makes it exciting. As followers of Jesus we anticipate the kingdom of God in the here and now, and in every circumstance of our lives, we always have something to look forward to. ‘Meanwhile the joyful anticipation deepens.’ (v 19)
Romans 8: 15
“This resurrection life you received from God….is adventurously expectant, greeting God with a childlike ‘What’s next Papa?”
