Thank you
Luke 17:11-19
Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus travelled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance and called out in a loud voice, "Jesus, Master, have pity on us!" When he saw them, he said, "Go, show yourselves to the priests." And as they went, they were cleansed. One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself at Jesus' feet and thanked him--and he was a Samaritan. Jesus asked, "Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?" Then he said to him, "Rise and go; your faith has made you well."
Loving God,
we confess we often behave like the nine men who forgot to say thank you. We confess there is so much in life we take for granted, and so many people we take for granted. We seldom pause to reflect and remember the people who have taught us and nurtured us and helped to shape us in years gone by.
- Those who were patient with us as children, and who have encouraged us as adults.
- Those who have been positive leaders in church and in school, in places of learning and places of work
- Those who told us the stories of faith, and who lived life as living examples of that faith.
- Those who did their job, who have made a difference in our lives – and who were never thanked.
- Those who saw potential in us that we never saw in ourselves
Loving God, in this moment we pause to remember them, and then we say ‘Thank you’ – to you and to them. AMEN
