Listen to this daily worship
Psalm 150: 3-5
3 Praise him with trumpets.
Praise him with harps and lyres.
4 Praise him with drums and dancing.
Praise him with harps and flutes.
5 Praise him with cymbals.
Praise him with loud cymbals.
What, no accordion? With trumpets, drums, etc., perhaps the Psalmist thought he had enough examples of loud instruments. If accordions had been around in his time I get the feeling the Psalmist would have put it in. Yes, you’ve guessed it, I play the accordion! It comes in for a lot of stick. Someone gave me a cartoon that was split into two pictures, top and bottom – the upper picture was one of an angel passing a harp to someone saying “Welcome to heaven, here’s your harp” and in the picture below a devil saying, “Welcome to hell, here’s your accordion”!
I once had a neighbour long ago who didn’t like it when I played the accordion, there’s no accounting for some with no taste! One place where my accordion playing was welcome was on the beach at Millport many years ago when I was there on summer mission, playing choruses for the kids to sing along to on the (sunny) beach! We had a great time, singing and praising God with loud instruments and loud voices. It’s hard to keep it quiet when you have Good News of a living Lord just bursting to get out!
Prayer:
Lord God, with heart and soul and mind and strength, we love you! With cheerful voices and loud instruments we praise you! We thank you with all our hearts for sending Jesus your Son into the world, not to be our judge but to be our Saviour! We thank you for his resurrection and for your promise of eternal life! Hallelujah! Amen.
