Spirit of Assurance
Romans 8.14-17
For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, ‘Abba, Father.’ The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs – heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
Abba. Dad.
Can I really call you "Dad"?
Do I even want to?
Heavenly Father, yes,
but the "D" word?
It seems too familiar,
too confident.
But is that the point, Lord?
I am your child,
I am in your family
and so are all my sister and brother believers.
So Abba, "Dad" it is.
In heaven.
And here on earth
let me live today
in this assurance.
Make me not cocky;
make me concerned
to help others find their way to you
and into your family.
