Spinning a lot of plates?

Luke 2:49

49 He said to them, ‘Why were you searching for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?’

It is one thing to be busy about 'Our Father’s business'. It is another thing to be busy spinning plates that the Father never asked us to spin. Too often within leadership in the church we inherit work patterns and expectations from others that are in fact preventing us from fulfilling our calling - to be a relevant witness to the love and grace of God in the world.

Tomorrow Saturday 25 November has been designated by the 2017 General Assembly of the Church of Scotland as a National Day of Prayer. Each congregation has been invited to begin to make prayer a top priority and focus during the coming months.

Reflection:

What are the plates you’re spinning?

Would it be possible to stop spinning them and sit down for a while with me?

I admire all you’re trying to achieve

Let me help you dismantle the spinning tops?

You know you’re too busy!

And if you want me to be honest - you’ve become obsessed and stressed

I don’t want you to spin plates

Use the plates for food

I’ve been trying to catch your eye for sometime now

Come let’s take the plates off the sticks

Sit with me awhile

Slow down

Just sit

No words

No visions

No strategies

No five year plans

No guilt trips

No judgements

No expectations

I want you to get to know me better

Stay with me a while

Stay with me

And together

We can go about

Our Father’s business.
