Simply love
Listen to this daily worship
1 Corinthians 13: 13, 1 John 4: 19-21 (GNT)
(1 Corinthians 13) 13 Meanwhile these three remain: faith, hope, and love; and the greatest of these is love.
(1 John 4) 19 We love because God first loved us. 20 If we say we love God, but hate others, we are liars. For we cannot love God, whom we have not seen, if we do not love others, whom we have seen. 21 The command that Christ has given us is this: whoever loves God must love others also.
Love is a many splendoured thing. Love is the greatest thing. Love lifted me. Nothing’s ever been found that’s stronger than love. Lines from songs. There must be millions of songs about love. 1 Corinthians 13 was read at a royal wedding many years ago and someone wrote to ask for a copy of the wonderful speech that had been made! It is perhaps amongst the most well-known passages in the Bible. Jesus captures love in the two most important commandments: love God and love your neighbour. Don’t try and work it out, don’t look for loopholes or further details, let’s just get on with it and love God and love our neighbours. It is key to life. Sounds simple? Yes, it is!
PRAYER:
God, you are love. You made us out of love. In love you have redeemed us in Jesus. In thankfulness, help us simply to love you and love our neighbours. You know how tough it is at times to love in this crazy, selfish world, and sometimes even in the Church. Nevertheless, help us to persevere in faith and in hope, but most of all in love. Amen.
