Simple deeds of kindness
Hebrews 13: 15-16
15 Let us, then, always offer praise to God as our sacrifice through Jesus, which is the offering presented by lips that confess him as Lord. 16 Do not forget to do good and to help one another, because these are the sacrifices that please God.
Praise to God as our sacrifice through Jesus?
That sounds too easy.
Shouldn’t sacrifice be something difficult?
Costly even?
Surely we will not offer to God offerings that cost us nothing –
This season of remembrance confronts us always
with sacrifice on a scale we can hardly comprehend.
It is humbling
to contemplate what previous generations have done for us.
But the struggle is not over,
and we see different aspects of sacrifice,
as many people give up their homes, and their livelihoods,
to risk everything
in the search for a better life
for their families and future.
We may make our offering
In the name of Jesus
by doing good and helping one another –
it sounds so simple!
Perhaps another thing to give up is the idea of a grand gesture –
God give us grace
to praise you,
to thank you,
to serve you,
in simple deeds of kindness,
and love for all your people.
