Serving from a place of love
Listen to this daily worship
1 Peter 1: 22–23 (NRSVA)
22 Now that you have purified your souls by your obedience to the truth so that you have genuine mutual love, love one another deeply from the heart. 23 You have been born anew, not of perishable but of imperishable seed, through the living and enduring word of God.
Working with sincere love, deeply from the heart, is challenging. If I am honest — how often is my ‘help’ driven by a belief that I know best and can ‘fix’ something or someone one? How often is my help about fulfilling a need in me? My Vine Trust construction expedition to Kazunzu Village of Hope in Tanzania deepened my appreciation of what it means to serve more deeply from the heart. Letting go of what I thought I knew. Letting go of what I thought mattered. Tuning into and really hearing what mattered to our partner, the African Inland Church of Tanzania and the communities they serve. Spending time connecting — not just doing. Enabling not directing. Serving not shaping.
Space for reflection: Where are the spaces that you can serve with love this week? With no solutions, no agenda, just deep love.
PRAYER:
Dear God,
Help us to let go
to put down our plans, agenda, thoughts and ideas
and instead to hear others' needs and serve deeply, with love.
Amen.
