Saints and sunshine
Listen to this daily worship
Hebrews 12: 1-2 (NRSVA)
1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the sake of the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God.
The storm is fading, the rain has slowed, the rivers are flowing gently, the dark clouds have sailed further on. Here come the clear skies, the soft clouds and the encouragement of those first rays of sunshine.
Who is it in your life that brings those rays of sunshine to you?
The sunshine which encourages and cheers you. Is it friends, family, church or community? Do you feel cheered on by the clouds of saints long gone but not forgotten?
As you go about your day today perhaps you can think about who it is yourself that you cheer on. Maybe you know someone, perhaps only in passing, who needs encouragement today.
PRAYER:
Dear God of saints,
Thank you that you have peppered history with encouraging people
Thank you that you still bring saints to us today in all guises
Help us to recognise your touch in their words and actions.
Please use us to encourage others, whatever the weather.
Amen
