Rooted in love
Listen to this daily worship
Ephesians 3: 16-21 (NRSVA)
16 I pray that, according to the riches of his glory, he may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being with power through his Spirit, 17 and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love. 18 I pray that you may have the power to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
20 Now to him who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, for ever and ever. Amen.
My sofa has an imprint of me: my tired head, my aching back, my bored bum. I can almost feel the roots growing from my feet down into the floor. Before you say I should be using my time more productively I should point out I have a newborn baby who likes to sleep on me. Whether I like it or not I am rooted to this spot, to these few rooms. Sometimes this makes me feel trapped, lonely or afraid. But as many others are finding this doesn't have to be the case. From the comfort of my well worn seat I can reach out and find love and connection across the country or even the world. I find that although we are all rooted to the spot we all also rooted in love. Love for God and love for each other which can overcome even the deepest of sofa imprints.
PRAYER:
God of connection,
You have grounded us and rooted us in love
When we are alone give us the strength to reach out
When we feel trapped give us your vision for this world
Help us to teach each new generation the importance of connection with others and with you
Amen.
