The rock to build upon
Listen to this daily worship
Matthew 7: 24-27 (NLT)
24 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. 25 Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. 26 But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. 27 When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”
Have you ever built a sandcastle? You need the right type of sand don’t you? Too dry and it all falls down before someone else jumps on it to squish it! I’ve never built a house. Watched plenty of programmes about other people doing it but not personally dug the foundations, tested the soil. I think I have already got the order wrong for successful house building! I should have listened to the parable!
And that’s one of the points of this parable isn’t it. Are we listening to and doing what Jesus said?
One of the points.
The other point is that type of soil or ground (which you should be checking first before building anything). What type of ground is Jesus?
Jesus is solid, steady, secure.
Jesus is trustworthy, true.
Build on Jesus.
Grace and
Love,
Jesus.
Prayer:
God with us, Immanuel, is your name.
Give us ears to hear, eyes to see and hearts to understand your ways and your teachings. For we build our lives on your ways and your teachings. You are the ground on which we stand and live and build and believe. Everything else collapses in comparison to you.
Jesus only you are worthy of our praise today. Only you are with us. Only you offer us love and grace without measure and we build on this truth.
There is only one way to the Father and that is through you Jesus, and we build on this truth.
Help us to be expert builders in your Kingdom.
We ask your blessing on teachers in our communities as they seek to educate and instruct.
We ask for your blessing on builders and tradespeople as they build homes for others.
And we ask for your mercy, compassion and blessing on those who are without a home, open up access to a safe place to live for them.
Father, we pray in the name of Jesus, Amen.
