Relationship Status
Matthew 5:16
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
In our modern age of social media and the internet, the goings on of our private and professional lives can be accessed at the click of a mouse or the tapping of a device.
Suddenly we are able to find out the upbringing, educational background, career progression even the pet nicknames of a person simply by searching them online.
This is especially true for well known individuals in the worlds of politics, film, television, sport etc whose personal lives, including their relationships, are exposed for the world to see.
This week we can read about the highly publicised divorce of a Hollywood couple who through the media have released videos and pictures of arguments, accusations and even, sadly, harm.
The destructive nature of their relationship (and the many others that are played out in public) can be saddening, especially the pain that they must be going through, as we examine the nature of our own.
Their relationships can even parallel the relationship we have with our online presence; we are all susceptible to falling into the trap of getting bogged down with disheartening stories or using it for negative attention.
When we break away from this and turn our online use into a force for good, we can spread God’s love- not only to the many hearts and souls online but also the significant ones in our own lives.
Lord, sometimes our relationships are tough and difficult
help us to learn from the patterns of others
help us to have introspection to learn from our mistakes
help us to forgive rather than accuse,
to accept fault rather than find it
and to reflect on changes we need to make.
Thank you for the healing you provide us with,
the peace that passes all understanding.
Guide us in using social media to heal and not to hurt,
to use it to encourage and uplift others,
for your glory and honour.
Amen
