Raging
Listen to this daily worship
Jeremiah 12: 1-4 (NRSVA)
12 You will be in the right, O Lord,
when I lay charges against you;
but let me put my case to you.
Why does the way of the guilty prosper?
Why do all who are treacherous thrive?
2 You plant them, and they take root;
they grow and bring forth fruit;
you are near in their mouths
yet far from their hearts.
3 But you, O Lord, know me;
You see me and test me—my heart is with you.
Pull them out like sheep for the slaughter,
and set them apart for the day of slaughter.
4 How long will the land mourn,
and the grass of every field wither?
For the wickedness of those who live in it
the animals and the birds are swept away,
and because people said, ‘He is blind to our ways.’
I find myself raging all the time. Raging at the news, raging at the government. Raging at the apathy of people. Raging against our inaction to try and combat climate change. Raging that our brothers and sisters around the world are losing their land, losing their homes due to climate change. Raging that we are destroying God’s creation. Raging that animals are struggling, some on the verge of extinction. I’m raging. It isn’t Jeremiah’s complaint. It is Laura’s complaint. I do wonder if we as a species will only act once it is actually too late? I wonder what kind of world my grandchildren will inherit and I cry out to God. Where is the justice? Why is it the powerful and the greedy who are setting the agenda? Why is it that those who care least have the loudest voices? Why Lord, why?
PRAYER:
Lord God,
You are always righteous.
I will continue to make my case before you.
I think you rage too Lord.
Use my rage Lord,
Let me rage with you
For justice
For our world
For the Kingdom causes
Amen
