Genesis 12: 1-4 (NRSVA)

1 Now the Lord said to Abram, ‘Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. 2 I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’

4 So Abram went, as the Lord had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.

Adventure is calling, you feel driven to head off into the unknown and see new sights and experience new things. What is your plan? Do you even have a plan?

When planning a trip into the wilderness of Scotland, or anywhere in the world, it is important to plan. When heading off to spend a night in a bothy in the depths of the hills that is no different. Bothies are rudimentary shelters, left open by their owners for those in need of shelter. They will sometimes have a sleeping platform and a fire place, but normally no mattress, firewood or even toilet for you to use.

As you plan your bothy adventure you need to plan, you know there is a promise of a wind and water tight shelter at the end of the day, but you have to be prepared, with sleeping bag, food, firewood and toilet shovel in your bag.

Abram was called by God to head off into the unknown, to go on a divinely inspired adventure to find a land promised to him by God. He set out on a journey of faith and was prepared, in spirit and in planning.

Abram was called by God to go on a journey of faith, and God promised shelter.

Are you prepared to go on a journey of faith?

PRAYER:

God,
Help me be prepared to head out on a journey of faith.
Help me to pack my bag with prayer, reflection and Bible reading.
God,
Help me head out sure in the promise of your shelter.
Amen.

The Transforming Shelter: Think about your local area/town/city and reflect on the people living around who could be struggling or suffering, who perhaps can’t rely on their shelter or accommodation. Commit to pray for your neighbourhood and those same people every day this week.
