Pressing On
Philippians 3: 13-14
Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and straining towards what is ahead,
I press on towards the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenwards in Christ Jesus.
Sometimes the name of the basecamp is called “Pressing On” It is simply because there is no point in waiting around for others to make plans. We have the responsibility to take control and press on through the difficult terrain of our lives. Over the years I’ve been inspired by some amazing people who have lost so much, but have never given up, or wallowed in self pity, or asked why me. Instead they have simply pressed on through the pain of life to a higher place. This particular song recorded by Regina McCrary is for me an inspirational version of Dylan’s gospel song which seeks to recall the words of the Apostle Paul in Philippians 3:13.
Lord,
Sometimes,
It’s so hard.
I give up.
I try to walk away.
Pretend to myself
I’ll find an easier route
A short cut
Then I look and see
My friends
Battling the elements
Pressing on
The truth is
I know
There are no short cuts in life
Short cut
Always end up in dead ends.
Lord,
Give me the courage
To face
The struggle
Like my friends…
The determination
To ‘press on”
To move from basecamp to summit
To follow in your footsteps
Lord,
The thing is
I know when I make the first move
I discover others all around me
They appear like angels
Lifting me up
Giving me strength
Making me smile
through the tears.
