Precious Stones
Listen to this daily worship
1 Corinthians 3: 10-15 (NRSVA)
10 According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building on it. Each builder must choose with care how to build on it. 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one that has been laid; that foundation is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw— 13 the work of each builder will become visible, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each has done. 14 If what has been built on the foundation survives, the builder will receive a reward. 15 If the work is burned, the builder will suffer loss; the builder will be saved, but only as through fire.
Diamonds,
Sparkling, catching the light, making it dance.
Beautiful, life evoking jewels.
And yet,
It takes time,
Perseverance,
And pressure.
Lots of pressure.
Before in the darkness,
From the depths of the earth these glitters form.
What is real and lasting endures,
Changes,
Is made new.
From dirt and decay precious jewels emerge.
Gold,
Glittering, reflecting the light, true and strong,
Held in the rocks,
But in the heat of the furnace released
To be shaped and moulded
At the jeweller’s hands,
Precious and enduring.
What is real and lasting endures, changes, is made new
From stones and rubble, precious metal flows forth.
Spirit,
Ruach,
Breath.
A fire that cannot be extinguished.
All the pressure,
All the heat,
The challenges and trials of life.
Still burning,
Embers aglow deep within.
Like diamonds,
Like gold,
Forming, shaping, growing,
Just waiting for the right moment to emerge.
What is real and lasting endures,
Changes,
Is made new.
From the pain, from the pressure, new beginnings emerge.
Goldsmith of my Life,
Thank you that your hands hold me fast,
That knowledge that I am yours,
That the fire of your spirit burns deep within me,
A rich seam of life flowing through me,
That is the precious truth within me.
The wonder that you,
You care for me!
It’s a balm for my troubled soul.
And the promise that no matter what pressures I face,
What darkness it feels I’m labouring under,
That you’ve got this,
And more importantly, you’ve got me!
Lord, that’s a precious stone to hold onto.
Let me hold on to the hope that something good,
Something beautiful, something precious is being birthed here,
As I stand on the solid rock of Jesus.
Amen.
