Prayers from India
John 14:27
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
Kolkata is the second largest urbanized city in India. The population is still growing with many immigrants arriving constantly from Nepal and Bangladesh, and from the neighboring states of Assam and Orissa.
There are thousands of people who are infected with HIV/AIDS in Kolkata. They are not only suffering from physical illness, but from discrimination and stigmatization in their communities and society at large. Some of them have no opportunity to take the necessary treatment in time due to their poor socio-economic condition; for them, life can seem hopeless.
Dear God, only your peace can bring much healing into our lives. Only your peace can bring much joy to the heart of those who are suffering with HIV/AIDS. They feel that life is hopeless, bitter and unfair, but I pray that today they will find the strength and peace from you that is unique and real, something they can cling to. We remember your word promising the peace that will abide with us.
In your name, amen.
