Powerful God
Ephesians 3:20-21
Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
Do you sometimes feel that you are ‘powerless’ in a world infatuated with ‘power’? When you see the influence big business and money exert on our culture and the influence they have on the choices made by so many in society. Our reading in Ephesians reminds us that, God is ‘able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us ….’ This power within us is the same power that raised Christ from the dead (Ephesians 1:18). We, the Church, can, in the power of the Holy Spirit, be a culture challenging people. Questioning the norms that many feel govern life; offering an alternative life-style that doesn’t seek personal fulfilment at the expense of others; providing hope for a tomorrow that doesn’t have to be the same as today.
All Powerful God
Who alone creates out of nothing
And who re-creates in love that which is broken,
Create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me
Cast me not away from your presence
And take not away your Holy Spirit from me.
Today enable me to trust that you will provide
The power and capacity I need
To live to your Glory
To love the unlovely
And to accept with a thankful heart all the challenges that come to me.
