Planting God’s garden
Listen to this daily worship
Isaiah 61: 11 (NRSVA)
11 For as the earth brings forth its shoots,
and as a garden causes what is sown in it to spring up,
so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise
to spring up before all the nations.
Throughout this time we are discovering both our own helplessness and our own power. Many people find comfort in focusing on the things that they can control and giving to God those things that they cannot. There are so many things about the future to come that we cannot control but I suppose this has always been the case. What we can control is what we bring to that future.
What do we want to plant in ourselves, in our communities, in our world? Here is our chance to plant peace, to plant hope, to plant creativity and connection. To craft tools for a future which cares for each other and for the planet. We alone cannot choose how well these plants grow but we can go on planting and maybe we will create a garden of God here on earth.
PRAYER:
God of the future,
Hold for us the things that we cannot hold in this time
Open our hearts to what you have planted there
Help us to plant the seeds of your kingdom: make us your apprentices
Amen.
