Petrichor Prayers
Listen to this daily worship
Revelation 5: 8 (NRSVA)
8 When he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell before the Lamb, each holding a harp and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.
The smell after rain is called ‘petrichor' and it’s really cool. It’s the smell of the earth and of everything else we have put on it amplified by the water of the rain and the moisture in the air.
It feels like the earth is rising up to meet me when I smell that smell.
Today’s reading gives us a picture of prayers rising up like incense towards God. Like God’s own version of petrichor brought on by our tears of joy or sorrow as we call out to the heavens.
PRAYER:
Dear God of scent
Help us to be aware of the world around us and what we have put in it.
Thank you that you are alive to our words and hopes and prayers
Accept our thanks and praise for a world to live on
Keep reminding us how precious it is, whatever the weather.
Amen
