Peace On Earth
John 10: 10b
10b I have come that they might have life and have it in all its fullness.
“I have come that they might have life and have it in all its fullness.”
This promise of Jesus in today’s text will never be realised until we have peace on earth. Today as we near the end of 2018 for many peace on earth is simply a pipe dream. Bono in his song entitled ‘Peace on Earth' reflects:
”Sick of sorrow
Sick of pain
Sick of hearing again and again
That there's gonna be
Peace on earth”
So we come to the end of our theme Christmas round the World. Do we simply walk away from the theme or do we carry it in our hearts into the rest of our lives? Let us seek to be the peacemakers in our families, in our streets and in our workplaces. We can be the people who help make someone’s life a lot better this coming year. We can be the one who seeks to bring an end to a family feud, or a bullying situation at work. We can be the one who seeks to acknowledge the presence of the Prince of Peace in our midst as we journey through life. Peace may be in our hearts as an aspiration, but when we seek to place peace in each others’ hands it becomes a real possibility, in fact a tangible experience.
Come peace of Christ,
Live in my personal space
Walk with me
Behind and before
Guide my left and right brain
Stay close to my lips and my mouth
So that I may inhale the breath of peace into my soul
Go before me peace of Christ,
be the introduction to all I meet
Create a circle of hope and expectation,
around the conversations of my life
Lead me to walk in the paths of peace and reconciliation
Lean tight into me to keep me safe
For I can easily be distracted; enticed to walk another road
Indwell my heart peace of Christ
Guard my anxious thoughts
And calm my angry moods
Redirect my imagination
to believe and trust the blessing of peace
can touch the most troubled souls
Let peace be the watchword we share this coming year
