Passing on the Gospel Baton
Acts 2:1-4
When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
Aha!
I’ve been panicking all this week about how I’m going to play my part in passing on the Gospel baton as I try to run the race of faith.
Now I know!
What you ask me to do, Lord, you help me to do.
I’m not in this alone!
How amazingly generous you are.
You trust me, us, with your creation…
And you trust us too with the Gospel
You give us our own place
In the generations of followers
You love and call.
Then you send us your Spirit to help us to do
And to be
The best we can be.
You show us the way.
Ever so patiently
you put up with our feeble efforts.
You pick us up when we fall.
You choose us again and again to run for you
And offer us your own breath
To fill our heart and lungs.
It is letting Him work through us
That we finish the race
And win the crown that is eternal.
And it’s through him
That others take up the torch.
Glory to the Father
And to the Son
And to the Holy Spirit.
Now and always!!
Amen
