Open our eyes
2 Timothy 6: 17 - 19
Tell those who are rich in this age not to be arrogant and not to place their confidence in anything as uncertain as riches. Instead, let them place their confidence in God, who lavishly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. They are to do good, to be rich in good actions, to be generous, and to share. By doing this they store up a treasure for themselves that is a good foundation for the future, so that they can keep their hold on the life that is real.
Father, what is true wealth?
There are many in this world who are amazingly rich, who do not ever need to worry about their next meal or where they will find water, who do not need to ask the price of anything before choosing. Riches are not in themselves evil and we know that they can do great good if used wisely. Work in the hearts and minds of the rich so that are open to your guiding; open their eyes to see the good they can do.
There are many in this world who are heart-breakingly poor, who never know where their next meal or drink will come from, who do not need to ask the price of anything because they have no money. Poverty, real poverty, is hard for us to understand. Open our hearts and minds to know what we can do to right the injustice and oppression on poverty. Amen
