It’s not the song, it’s the singer

Luke 2: 13

13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying,

14 ‘Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace among those whom he favours!’

We may not hear angels singing peace on earth and goodwill towards mankind, but each of us in a small way can begin to listen for the ring of truth in each conversation that takes place on Christmas Day and indeed every day. Learning to sing the angels’s songs of peace is no pipe dream.

If we speak of hope and joy and love they become songs that touch the heart. We can see faces and lives transformed. Words can change a conversation. A conversation can change an action. An action can change a life. A life can change a nation. A nation can change the world.

The Ring of Truth

There is a ring of truth in the sky tonight

Hope is on the street

Something in the air feels right

Darkness has somehow lost its place

And faith has found a space

In a human heart

There is a ring of truth round the earth tonight

Peace is on the street

A Word was spoken

In the dark

The struggle has just begun

You too will meet the dawn

In a human heart

There is a ring of truth on the ground tonight

Love is on the street

Hard as iron soft as snow

Footprints mark the cross

Where love will grow

In the human heart

There is a ring of truth in your voice tonight

Joy is on the street

Tears will trickle into song

In praise of Christmas morn

God is born

With a human heart

There is a truth that rings in heaven tonight

God is on the street

Angels can’t believe the plan

That God is in a man

The Spirit of the Father, Son

Beating in a human heart
