North
2 Timothy 3:1-9
But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.
They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over weak-willed women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, always learning but never able to acknowledge the truth. Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these men oppose the truth—men of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected. But they will not get very far because, as in the case of those men, their folly will be clear to everyone.
For many years Lord, the North has been the heart land of the Christian faith -
The centre of Christendom -
And yet Lord also the centre of modern thought -
forgive us that we have confined you to be the ‘God of the gaps’ -
forgive us that we think we have it all figured out -
forgive us that we think we no longer need you -
forgive us that you are no longer the object of our affection.
We are consumed Lord -
We think we are so clever like Babel of old -
We can have anything we want -
and we think we deserve it. -
In our generation Lord -
we love money and the things we buy -
we no longer see you as the God of miracles -
We see the name Jesus as a swear word -
we no longer strive to know you -
relight the flame of love that burned so brightly -
that men gave up everything to tell of your love-
revive your people to stand up for you -
in lands which have turned their back on you -
and yet their foundation is built on your truth -
Forgive us -
Cleanse us -
Heal us -
may we see the error of our ways and return to you -
In Jesus precious name
Amen
