Isaiah 49: 14-16 (NRSVA)

14

But Zion said, ‘The Lord has forsaken me,
    my Lord has forgotten me.’

15

Can a woman forget her nursing-child,
or show no compassion for the child of her womb?
Even these may forget,
yet I will not forget you.

16

See, I have inscribed you on the palms of my hands;
your walls are continually before me.

Have you ever started to feel the fear?

I love swimming in the sea, but if I fall over at the shore and the waves keep crashing in on top of me, unwilling to pause long enough to allow me to get back on my feet, I cannot help but get that heavy feeling of anxiety in the pit of my stomach…
Am I going to get back up?
Am I in trouble?
Who will help me?

If we ever have a wobble in our faith, a moment when we wonder if God has forgotten about us or forsaken us, then these words from Isaiah never fail to get us back on track…

A parent’s bond with their infant is one of the strongest on Earth. Yet, even in the rare case that a mother might forget her child, God emphatically states that He will never forget us. God assures us that we are engraved on the palms of His hands, a symbol of His ineffaceable and infinite  connection with us.

Isn’t it incredible to be reminded that God's love transcends human comprehension? No matter how challenging the circumstances, we can stand firm in the knowledge that God is with us, holding us close, and will never forget us.

May these words from Isaiah give you the confidence to trust that God's love is unshakable and His memory unwavering.

May you be inspired to trust in God’s promises and to rely on the unfailing support on offer.

We never are, nor will we ever be, forgotten by our Creator, who has our names forever etched in the palms of His hands…

Let us pray

God

You know us.

You love us.

You care about us.

God

You will never forget us.

You will never stop loving us.

You will never stop caring about us.

Thank you for never giving up on us.

Amen.
