Mary’s Diary: Visitors
Listen to this daily worship
Luke 2: 15-18 (Luke 2: 15-18)
15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, ‘Let us go now to Bethlehem and see this thing that has taken place, which the Lord has made known to us.’ 16 So they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the child lying in the manger. 17 When they saw this, they made known what had been told them about this child; 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds told them.
I managed about two hours of sleep this morning with people bustling around me and little Jesus in his makeshift bed, swaddled just like I was once. Then some very unexpected visitors arrived. Our hosts were not happy and left the main room complaining but the shepherds were so well meaning and so in awe of my baby boy that no-one had the heart to turn them away. I’m glad of it. They told me the secret: I was right, it was angels last night! Not my own exhausted waking-dreams, but a whole flock of angels singing and talking about my little baby. God must be so proud.
I had a good chat with several of them, one was a new father and he had plenty of advice for Joseph, I didn’t agree with it all but he was so kind. The littlest was telling me all about how ewes are with tiny new lambs. He was so earnest and gentle with me, like I was a new lamb myself. I hope Jesus grows up to be a bit like him.
PRAYER:
Dear God of encounters
Thank you that there are so many different people
Thank you that you know each and every heart
Help us to always be kind to each other
Let us always see each other through your loving eyes
Amen
