Mary’s Diary: Light On The Hillside
Listen to this daily worship
Luke 2: 13-14 (NRSVA)
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying,
14 ‘Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace among those whom he favours!’
I’ve lost count of how little sleep I’ve had, how can one baby be so hungry and so loud. He’s asleep now, thank you God. And it really is God I have to thank for all this. For his little eyes and his wonderful toes. I was trying to sleep a bit more but there’s a strange light coming through the window. I think it’s coming from the hills, it’s not the sunrise, which I thought it was at first, because it's the wrong direction. The wrong kind of light too. I’m leaning back and peering out of the window, trying so hard not to move too much and wake Jesus up again. The light is beautiful, it's moving and I mean that literally as well, it’s shifting and changing and it’s reminding me of the angel.
It must be angel light, it must be. But it can’t just be one, it’s more than I can count, moving and overlapping. Maybe I’m just too tired to think straight, perhaps this is all in my head. But oh I hope it’s angels, come to see him, God’s boy, my boy. Little and noisy and perfect. I swear I can hear them singing him a lullaby.
PRAYER:
Dear God of light
In our struggles and our need, in our darknesses,
Shine your light and have your angels sing your songs.
Stand with us, sit with us as we face our trials
Rejoice with us as we revel in our joys.
Bring your light to all corners of our world this Christmas.
Amen
