Love that never lets go
Ecclesiastes 3:6
God sets a time for searching and a time to count your losses,
a time for holding on and a time to let go.
Reflection
You may like to use the symbol of a knotted hankie, or something precious to you, or something you once lost and then found again as a focus for your prayers.
Jesus told stories about a woman searching for a lost coin, a shepherd seeking a lost sheep and a father looking for a lost son as ways of explaining God to us. All through the bible, God champions lost causes and holds the people with a love that never lets go. Sometimes, though, we have to give up. We have to accept defeat or loss, we have to settle accounts and move on, we have to accept that we cannot redeem everything. It takes wisdom to know the difference. At this turning time of the year take time to do the accounts of your life. Reckon what it is vital to hold on to and what you should let go.
Prayer
God who give us all
and yet who takes away,
help me not to cling on to things that do not bring life,
help me seek only what is good and what leads me into you,
help me reckon my life and store up treasure in heaven.
Thank you that you never stop looking for me,
thank you that you never give up,
but love me fiercely and determinedly whatever I do.
