Love makes time…
Luke 10:38-42
As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”
“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
“As I have loved you, love one another….” (John 13:34,35) How do we love like Jesus? Again we turn to those who have tried.
Check out online, the lyrics of Casting Crowns’ song “American Dream”. It talks of a dad so busy earning money he has no time to spend with his family: “Not this time son I’ve no time to waste Maybe tomorrow we’ll have time to play And then he slips into his new BMW And drives farther and farther and farther away”
The song ends with a haunting line repeated - “all they really wanted was you”
Lord,
help me to make time to love -
not to let busy-ness
or bustle
become a substitute for being
with those around me.
Help me to love…
with all the time in the world
Just as you did
And do even now.
Because that’s the kind of love you love me with
and those I love,
as well as those I don’t
and don’t know.
Thank you.
Amen.
