When Good News Sounds Bad
Luke 4: 28–30
All the people in the synagogue were furious when they heard this. They got up, drove him out of the town, and took him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built, in order to throw him off the cliff. But he walked right through the crowd and went on his way.
We thank you for Jesus.
We thank you for the example of Jesus.
We thank you for the teaching of Jesus.
We thank you for the possibilities which his example and his teaching open up for us -
and for all the human race.
May we grow in faith as we follow his ways
and find ourselves participating in the great work of salvation which he began.
Yet we remember that the reaction to good news is not always good.
So we pray for those who are too afraid,
too embittered,
too greedy,
too powerful,
to accept the coming of a new kingdom.
Through all that happens,
today and each day,
may we go on trusting the power of love and forgiveness,
and may we go on trusting you, the source of love and forgiveness.
Amen
