Acts 16:14

A certain woman named Lydia, a worshipper of God, was listening to us; she was from the city of Thyatira and a dealer in purple cloth.

Reflection

Listening and providing space for learning, change and growth are all part of the task of providing leadership.  Lydia used her home and her wealth to encourage and enable others to discover a new way of living.  She was resourceful and responsive.  As a result, the whole community received something which otherwise would have passed through when Paul left the neighbourhood.

 

Prayer

Holy Spirit of God,
Open up the spaces in my relationships that I might listen and hear what is being said.
Open my thinking that I might be ready to receive new insights and wisdom.
Teach me how to use my resources well with a bias towards others’ needs rather than my own.
Teach me how to lead in word and deed
so that others might know
they are welcomed,
loved,
and nurtured by your hand alone.
