Knowing God’s Wisdom
Colossians 1: 9-14
And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, 10 so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.11 May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy, 12 giving thanks[c] to the Father, who has qualified you[d] to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. 13 He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
O Lord our God, would you grant us spiritual wisdom and understanding. Lord, if we do not hunger after these would you grant us, as the writer of the proverbs exhorts us, a great hunger for wisdom and understanding.
We acknowledge Lord that often we make decisions based on our own human understanding and do not consult the living God. Father would you forgive us our ignoring you, tenderly heal our backsliding and fix our eyes upon Christ that we may be found always seeking His way, and the wisdom that is from heaven.
Would you grant us the wisdom and understanding needed to carefully walk through this world, in which we are pilgrims and aliens, that our footsteps, our actions and words may give glory to you – and be found in a manner “worthy of the Lord”.
In all our trials and challenges we ask you for wisdom to live out the most high calling of knowing and loving Christ. Amen.
