The Kingdom is at hand!
Listen to this daily worship
Mark 1: 14-15 (NRSVA)
14 Now after John was arrested, Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God, 15 and saying, ‘The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent, and believe in the good news.’
In the Gospel of Mark Jesus’s mission has an immediate and insistent sense of urgency and momentum. Something is happening, arriving, becoming... Jesus is restless to point people to the Kingdom, are we?
The Kingdom — God’s project of restoration for humanity, for life in all its fullness — has come… is here… is soon… is being realised… will come… and is already in the process of becoming! All at the same time! The Kingdom is God’s vision for a renewed world of reconciled relationships: how things are meant to be, how they can be, and how they actually are here and now as the Kingdom is being built for us and with us!
It’s good news, ongoing good news!
The Kingdom of God draws near
so close
close enough to touch
close enough to breathe.
The salt of it,
the oil of it,
the spices and herbs of it —
each moment imbued
with more of eternity
more of reality
more of grace.
There is a fullness to the easy breaths of the Kingdom
there is easy recognition
and ever more to discover.
The Kingdom,
like a loved one
is ever known
and ever gives us more to know.
It’s cocoa and cinnamon
it’s the unbridled promise
that in the end
you are beloved
and belong
and this feeling doesn’t have to end.
Prayer:
Lead us in the easy breaths of the Kingdom Lord.
Amen.
