Keep Faith

Jock Stein May 09, 2017 0 1

1 Peter 2:19-25

19 For it is commendable if someone bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because they are conscious of God. 20 But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God. 21 To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.

22 “He committed no sin,
    and no deceit was found in his mouth.”

23 When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. 24 “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.” 25 For “you were like sheep going astray,” but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.

Christ hung on a bad cross for you

without a diary marked with Easter Day.

Keep faith, be glad to see it through.

Be sure to keep your conscience clear,

no point in getting done for illegality.

Christ hung on a bad cross for you,

he took it, body and soul, to pioneer

perfect obedience, so you may

keep faith, be glad to see it through.

No conscript, Christ: he was a volunteer

on our behalf; I now can say

Christ hung on a bad cross for you.

For us he breathed the atmosphere

of hell, our dear Lord suffered every way.

Keep faith, be glad to see it through.

Faithful unto death, the last frontier,

“Forgive them, Father,” he did gladly pray;

Christ hung on a bad cross for you;

keep faith, be glad to see it through.

Pray

God, you bring life out of death, light out of darkness, love out of despair.

Plant seeds of hope in the hopeless heart today.

Raise the fallen, comfort the troubled, heal the sick.

May the good news of the kingdom be proclaimed, lived out,

and suffered for - through Jesus Christ, crucified for us all. Amen.
