I’ve started so I’ll finish
Deuteronomy 31:1-2, 7-8
Then Moses went out and spoke these words to all Israel: “I am now a hundred and twenty years old and I am no longer able to lead you. The Lord has said to me, ‘You shall not cross the Jordan.’ ....
Then Moses summoned Joshua and said to him in the presence of all Israel, “Be strong and courageous, for you must go with this people into the land that the Lord swore to their ancestors to give them, and you must divide it among them as their inheritance. The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
Magnus Magnusson made famous the quote everyone knows from Mastermind “I’ve started so I’ll finish”.
But not everything is finish-able (is that a word?) in the time we can allot to it.
Sometimes we are asked to make a start on a project so that others can then step in and build on the foundations we have laid. We can be asked to begin a race – or perhaps even just to hold the baton - until the right person comes along to pass things on to.
It’s called teamwork.
And God’s family ought to be the very best team-workers as we participate in the race that is eternal.
Lord Jesus
Help us to work with you
And with one another in you.
And help us too, to know our place
within the far greater plans you have for us and the whole world
And to know the privilege
And pleasure
Of playing even the tiniest part
In your ongoing work.
In the name of Christ. Amen
