I am he who will sustain you
Isaiah 46: 3,4
“Listen to me, you descendants of Jacob,
all the remnant of the people of Israel,
you whom I have upheld since your birth,
and have carried since you were born.
Even to your old age and gray hairs
I am he, I am he who will sustain you.
I have made you and I will carry you;
I will sustain you and I will rescue you.
Faithful One,
carrying us from womb to tomb
in enthusiastic youthfulness
through cynical mid-life questioning
into the evening years.
Forgive our rebellious blindness
as we travel the road of life
missing the moments of beauty
or the challenge to be changed,
too often faithless ones,
unseeing.
But still You are faithful,
carrying us when our hearts are like stone
wrestling with us till we turn back.
I pray for that rebel across the way
the young toe-rag
the old rascal,
the terrorist,
the rapist,
and ask that You
nudge them a little closer to You
before evening comes.
