How to stand
Listen to this daily worship
Exodus 3: 4-6 (NRSVA)
4 When the Lord saw that he had turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, ‘Moses, Moses!’ And he said, ‘Here I am.’ 5 Then he said, ‘Come no closer! Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.’ 6 He said further, ‘I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’ And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God.

Sin-bound: come no further
Drawn yet repelled
Willing; held
Here I am
Only when Moses goes does God call to him. And the whole exchange is held in tension: I am calling you, yet you cannot come closer. Moses gives God his “Yes” and God enables him to do the humanly impossible: to stand on holy ground. Moses’ obedience in removing his shoes is all that he needs to bring. In the Presence of the Living God. What an encounter!
Prayer:
Holy, holy, holy God,
I worship You today.
Nothing that is not holy can be in Your Presence, but Lord Jesus You are holy, and in You we are made perfect forever even as You continue Your work in us.
So I come into Your Presence, Holy Lord, to stand before You, obedient to love and follow Jesus, in whom I am enabled to stand on holy ground.
Perhaps as I pray I can remove my own shoes as a symbol of my “Yes” to you.
I pray slowly and intentionally:
Here I am.
Amen
