Heaven’s Open Door
Listen to this daily worship
Revelation 4: 1-2 (NRSVA)
1 After this I looked, and there in heaven a door stood open! And the first voice, which I had heard speaking to me like a trumpet, said, ‘Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.’ 2 At once I was in the spirit, and there in heaven stood a throne, with one seated on the throne!
I find that every so often — sometimes in times of great celebration or stress and sometimes in the midst of the mundane and unremarkable — there are moments when things just click. When things just seem to resonate. It’s a feeling of a rightness that’s hard to put into words. But something happens and it feels right, something just clicks. And it’s not the click of a door closing. It’s the soft click of a door opening.
Somewhere in heaven a door stands ajar. Perhaps we can’t see much inside but we can hear something of the music.
It can happen in different ways. In quiet realisations and bolts from the blue. Somebody says something that just makes sense, something that’s as clear and refreshing as water out the tap. Or maybe somebody does something so generous, so selfless, and genuine that all the fibres of your being burst into applause. Maybe one day you look across the sea, up into the sky, and around the table and realise that this beauty and wonder is free and yours.
We cannot understand the mysteries of heaven, but they understand us. And what is more, they seek us out.
PRAYER:
Lord,
We thank you for the soft click
of doors opening in heaven
that give us a glimpse
of the rightness
of the love
that runs through the
universe.
Amen.
