Matthew 5:43-47

Matthew 5:43-47

“You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbour’ and hate your enemy. But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike. If you love only those who love you, what reward is there for that? Even corrupt tax collectors do that much. If you are kind only to your friends, how are you different from anyone else? Even pagans do that”.

Matthew 6:14,15

“If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins”.

Lord of Grace,
Author of grace,
I’m living your grace afresh daily.
It’s all around me, constantly.
It overwhelms me.
You don’t treat me as my sins deserve.
You have forgiven me as I have repented.
You have made me new.
And clean.
And hopeful.
And free.
I know that I can’t live on the mountain top all the time, Lord.
But I thank you for the times when my spirit soars in worship and joy and love and peace.
Thank you for the times when I know for sure that you are real.
Thank you for the times when I know for sure that you love me.
And thank you for sustaining me through the other times.

Thank you for grace.
Thank you that it’s new every morning.
Thank you that I can depend on it.
And Lord, please help me to be full of grace myself.
Towards others.
Towards all others. Even if they don’t deserve it. Especially if they don’t deserve it.
Rules make things nice and tidy. But rules aren’t more important than people. Jesus, Lord of Grace, may I follow your example.

May I mirror your grace today.
And tomorrow. Amen.
