Good things in life
Philippians 4:1-7
Therefore, my brothers and sisters, you whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm in the Lord in this way, dear friends!
I plead with Euodia and I plead with Syntyche to be of the same mind in the Lord. Yes, and I ask you, my true companion, help these women since they have contended at my side in the cause of the gospel, along with Clement and the rest of my co-workers, whose names are in the book of life.
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
God of heaven and earth, praise be to you for the glories of this world and universe.
Praise be to you for our lives and all that makes it joyful and worth living.
We praise you for the talents of artists,
musicians and dancers, painters and sculptors, writers and poets, film-makers and photographers
and everyone who uses their skills in praise of you to the best of their abilities.
We praise you for the talents of cooks and food producers,
chefs in kitchens for restaurants or hospitals, schools and homes, farmers, butchers and bakers
and anyone using their skill in praise of you to the nourishment of body and soul.
We praise you for the talents of welcome and friendship,
for all who dare to smile and make a new friend out of a stranger,
for all who do not get easily offended but look deeper for the cause of sharp words or actions,
for all who are not afraid of their own pain
and brave enough to accompany someone in their confusion, sorrow or pain.
We praise you for the miracle of family life,
church life or intentional communities, where love is lived and people welcomed, supported in their need
and forgiven in their failings to make a new start in your love.
Glory be to you, Lord of all life and love,
for the joy of living in so many different ways.
Amen
